Paragraph

The purpose of the Student or Work Internships for ESPOL students is to provide participants with a complement to the education provided by the institution through direct contact with the field of their future profession.

Yes, to obtain a degree, students must complete a mandatory minimum period of internships as established by each academic unit. (At FIEC, it is 640 hours, equivalent to four months full-time)

Internships can be carried out at the end of each semester or during the academic period if the student has available time. The duration of each internship program will be at least 30 days.

During the internship, students are required to adhere to the regulations or internal provisions of the company or institution where they are doing the internship.
If a student unjustifiably misses their internship or violates the regulations mentioned above, they will be penalized with the suspension of enrollment in one or more courses, depending on the infraction committed and after review by the Student Affairs and Welfare Committee.

Each company offering internships will specify what kind of assistance they will provide to the student, such as salary, transportation, meals, insurance, housing, etc. Not all companies offer all types of assistance.

Typically, the company offering the internship requires a formal request from ESPOL. To do this, the student must fill out the online form "Self-Management Letter" and then collect the letter from the FIEC secretary's office or the Internship Coordination within 24 hours. The student will be responsible for handling the necessary arrangements with the company to secure the internship.

Upon completion of the internship, the student must:

a)     Submit the Performance Evaluation Form to their immediate supervisor at the company, which must be signed and stamped by the company.

The student must then bring this printed .pdf to their coordinator's office to be filled out and signed at the end, then scan it and email it to the internship email* of their career, in the following format: LastName1_LastName2_FirstName1.pdf

Finally, the Performance Evaluation Form must be submitted in person at the Internship Coordination office of their career to be recorded as evidence.

b)     Download the Internship Report Form, which must be completed by the student, evaluating the company and the activities performed.

Scan it and email it to the internship email* of their career, following the format specified at the end of the document.

NOTE:

You must attach both the Performance Evaluation Form and the Internship Report Form in the same email, scanned and following the specified formats.

  • Once confirmation of the submission of both documents (.pdf and .doc) and the physical delivery of the Performance Evaluation Form is received, the student's internship hours will be accredited.
  • Students who do not submit both documents within three weeks from the end date of their internship, without any justification, will have their internship invalidated.

You can validate it by following the same process outlined in Frequently Asked Question 7.

If there are multiple assistantships from different semesters, you must submit both Forms for each completed internship.

NOTE:
Academic assistantships are not eligible for validation. What should I do once I have completed the required 640 hours of internships? As long as the student justifies their internships by submitting the Performance Evaluation Form and the Internship Report Form for each completed internship, their internship hours will be accredited.

Once the student has completed the required 640 hours, their internships will be automatically unlocked from ESPOL's debt system.

NOTE:
The student can check their accredited internship hours by logging into the Academic System under the Extracurricular Activities option.
